Thanks to the successful rehabilitation of a chest muscle lesion following a 25-session journey at IRC, Tran Nguyen Quan (born in 2006) - A Judo athlete can continue pursuing his passion and professional sports career.
1. Mechanism of injury
Chest muscle lesion is often caused by muscle overuse when lifting heavy objects or injury while playing sports, especially in sports that require great force, such as weightlifting, gymnastics, tennis, golf, martial arts, etc.
Tran Nguyen Quan (born in 2006) - a professional Judo athlete, suffered from a left pectoralis major muscle due to hitting his chest on the floor during Judo training. Since then, Quan could not continue competing or training, which was why he came to check and start his physical therapy treatment at IRC.
2. Rehabilitation process at IRC
When he first arrived at IRC, Quan felt pain while doing daily movements such as raising his arms, changing clothes, bathing, changing position from lying on his back to lying on his side, from standing to sitting. In particular, Quan could not continue practicing Judo.
An individualized plan of 25 rehabilitation and physical therapy sessions was designed for Quan after having a physio assessment with the experts at IRC, with different stages and specific goals as follows:
The first 2 weeks: Manual and physical therapy, combined with rehabilitation exercises to reduce pain, muscle spasms and improve upper body range of motion.
Week 3 - 7: Continue to focus on pain relief and load management, improving upper body strength and endurance, gradually returning to daily life activities.
Week 8 - 12: During this period, patients can perform explosive strength exercises and specialized exercises without any pain and discomfort in the chest thanks to upper body strengthening exercises, overall physical fitness and sports-specific skills enhancement.
Week 13: In the last week of the rehabilitation process, Nguyen Quan was able to return to Judo practice.
